Meet the Quads! Kenneth, Colton, Bentley, & Griffin!
When I was just 8 weeks pregnant I learned that I was pregnant with two sets of identical twins (simultaneously and NATURALLY)! My pregnancy was not like the usual quadruplet pregnancy! Usually women could have 1 set of identicals and 2 fraternal or 4 fraternal, but I had two sets of identicals! I always get the question, HOW?! Well.. Two eggs were fertilized and they both split, causing the two sets. Being pregnant with two sets of twins simultaneously was not easy! I had a very high risk pregnancy and had ultrasounds bi weekly. At 14 weeks we learned we were having all 4 boys! We started picking names, however the babies themselves weren't named until the day before they were being born! At 23 weeks of my pregnancy I was put on strict hospital bed rest because my cervix started shortening. Being on bed rest was rough. I was alone most of the day, but luckily my fiance was there everyday and spent the weekends with me! Throughout my pregnancy there were a lot of doubts and a lot of stress and definitely a lot of questions as to if Baby C would make it or not, for there was a lot complications. Baby C was always growing much slower than his brothers; 5 weeks slower actually. The only thing we could do was hope, pray, and stay positive that things will be okay! Baby C was our little fighter! And a little fighter he was! After weekly ultrasounds my doctor decided that it would be best to deliver on April 18, 2013 putting the boys at 28 weeks and 1 day old!
Introducing the Quads!
Baby A: Kenneth Michael II - 2lbs 4oz & 13 3/4"
Baby B: Colton Frank - 1lb 10oz & 13 1/4"
Baby C: Bentley Christian - 1lb 3oz & 11"
Baby D: Griffin McLean - 2lbs 1oz & 14"
Being so premature the boys spent a significant amount of time in the NICU (Neonatal intensive care unit). Kenneth and Griffin spent 2 months, Colton spent 3 months, and Bentley is still currently in the NICU 5 months later. Bentley has lived up to his title "the little fighter". He has had multiple surgeries, including an exploratory abdominal surgery for a suspicion of NEC. After he was stable from that he needed a laser eye surgery to prevent detached retinas, and lastly he had a heart surgery. He has a VSD (which is a hole in the bottom [ventricle] chambers of his heart). After weeks of recovery Bentley finally started to gain weight! He is now in a big boy crib, wearing clothes, trying bottles, and is off his oxygen!
Here on this blog I will give updates, share pictures, stories, and memories of our wonderful new family!
Continued thoughts and prayers are always much appreciated!
Thanks so much!
